AFTER 70 per cent of the vote was counted last night Labor looked unlikely to gain a majority in the Legislative Council but appeared set to win at least eight of the 21 available seats and should be able to pass bills with the support of either the Greens or the Reverend Fred Nile's Christian Democrats.
Mr Nile's party improved its vote in the upper house by 0.8 per cent to 3.8 per cent, giving the second person on his ticket, manners and model trainer June Dally-Watkins, a faint glimmer of a chance of winning a seat. The Greens were predicting the return of two upper house MPs, Lee Rhiannon for a second term and a new face, academic Dr John Kaye.
